She built a storied beauty empire from the ground up, amassing wealth unprecedented among black women at the time. Alongside her business successes, Walker devoted her life to philanthropy and social activism, forging friendships with prominent early-twentieth-century figures such as Ida B. Wells, Mary McLeod Bethune, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Booker T. Washington.
By the time of her death in 1919, Madam C.J. Walker had transformed her life from one of humble beginnings to a remarkable story of achievement and impact. Her legacy as a trailblazing African American entrepreneur and philanthropist continues to inspire generations, making her life story a captivating and important one to be shared with the world through various mediums, including the upcoming Netflix series.
